An art-filled Brooklyn three bedroom penthouse gets a fresh coat
Soohaeng and Tom hired me to help them update the color scheme in their amazing penthouse apartment in Brooklyn. They already had a fresh vibrant feel throughout the house due their fantastic whimsical art collection and simple modern furnishings. They had a mixture of cool and warm tones throughout the space, but overall the effect was cool.
So we opted to keep the main color a true white, and updated it to Benjamin Moore Oxford White, a clean, high LRV white with little to no undertones. And add color in some of the bedrooms and bathrooms.
A tiny guest bathroom contained a mix of materials and seemed to be calling for a strong color to pull everything together and highlight their collection of playful prints.
I suggested a versatile blue-based gray called Benjamin Moore Oxford Gray which really set off the bits of red, blue, and olive in the artwork and creates a sturdy feeling.
The all white walls and shelving in Soohaeng’s study felt like a missed opportunity given the abundance of warm tones–wine red, brown, fuchsia pink, butterscotch—in the decor. So walls were painted Farrow and Ball Jitney, a warm earthy complex neutral with pink undertones which knitted everything together brilliantly and made the decor look intentional.
Thank you Soohaeng and Tom for having me in your fabulous home and including me in your redecorating process!
